What is it?
MIGA/Microgallery is a pilot project that makes it possible to test how to create a high-quality, audience-engaging (international) art programme within a small space. The gallery’s initiators provide overviews of the entire process, highlighting what works in practice and what may still require further consideration and development.

Why?

MIGA's aim is to use as few resources as possible for maintaining the building, so that the funds available for the art programme can remain to the artists and the people who run the gallery.

We are looking for collaboration partners and funders. If this idea resonated with you, feel free to get in touch or suggest someone who might be interested. We are seeking partners among energy producers, builders, urban planners, practitioners working in alternative spaces, urban gardeners, artists, and art enthusiasts.
Who and where?
The founders and driving forces behind Voronja and HAKI galleries, Raul Oreškin and Kaili Kask, are planning to establish an energy-efficient Microgallery in Tartu, on Lubja Street, in place of a Soviet-era garage unit. The area is known as Micro-Venice.

See the location on the map below.
" The gallery's construction will be based on three fundamental principles"
Living

The building must support living and working all year-round. It must provide a space for office work, and additionally allow for presentation of exhibitions intended for the public.
Garden & street gallery

To maximize the potential of its modest footprint, a micro-garden is planned for the rooftop, and a street gallery could be created on the building’s exterior wall.
Self-sufficiency

The aim is to build a live-in gallery that thrives on minimal maintenance, ensuring that every resource goes directly to the artists and the people who run the gallery.
