Tõnis Kriisa "Inner Peace"

The 2026 art program will be brought to a distinguished close by Tõnis Kriisa’s personal and meditative exhibition “Inner Peace.” Presenting a sculpture show on a 36 m² surface, which also serves as our everyday living space, is a challenge in itself. Equally remarkable, however, is the experience of inhabiting a space enveloped in Kriisa’s presence, where the art acts as both a decelerator of time and a keeper of inner calm.

Tõnis describes the exhibition as follows: “From childhood I’ve been molding clay constantly and getting the same comments at school: ‘Tõnis has clay again,’ or ‘Tõnis is shaping things in class again.’ Being allowed to do this is what helped me navigate through the system. Modeling taught me to focus, whether on what mattered or not, and it gave me—and still gives me—inner peace. Playing with clay was one of my treasured moments at home too. I would read curled up in bed, book on my lap, clay in my hands, shaping as I read, sometimes smearing the pages of my books.

The meditative state I enter while modeling transfers to the figures themselves: they carry a sense of calm, joy, and playfulness, embodying little moments through which each of us can discover our own inner peace.”
